"Goodbye to All That" at The Strand
Video from a February, 2014 event for the original anthology, featuring Dani Shapiro, Emily Gould, Chloe Caldwell, and me.
Readers,
As I was searching YouTube for an old video, I stumbled upon this one from February, 2014, when I was promoting the original edition of Goodbye to All That.
It features readings by
, Emily Gould, and Chloe Caldwell, three of the book’s contributors, and me.The evening was dedicated to late slam poet and novelist Maggie Estep, another contributor, who had died of a sudden heart attack the week before. Caldwell, who was close with Estep, read Maggie’s piece instead of her own.
I thought it might be fun to take a look back at this. Hope you enjoy. - Sari
Hi Sari, I loved watching this, thank you so much for posting! I am a native NYer, born in the late '60s at LeRoy Hospital (gone now, but was at 40 E 61st St.). From birth to age 12 I lived in a Mitchell-Lama building on 96th St between Amsterdam and Columbus. When I turned 12 we moved in with my step-dad in the Village, Waverly Place between 6th and MacDougal St. and then to the East Village on Stuyvesant Street. So much has changed in the 56 years I've been here, but strangely I never wanted to leave. The readings were amazing, thank you again for sharing this video!
I heard Maggie read several times at the Nuyorican in NYC (don't know if it's even there anymore!). Wonderful poet, wonderful scene.
