Minda, this is beautiful. I wish you would be the person to write that screenplay. You’ve made the argument, now we need to seed the audience with the new paradigm--let everyone see that the real love story tells us about everyone who holds you up.
“I’ve never wanted children. I need a life I can fold up like an origami swan and float away with when necessary. Children are the opposite of that, forever unfolding.” 💖
I came here for the reimagining of Waiting to Exhale (still one of my faves) and loved your take, especially the Lizzo moment. But I stayed for the rest. This is so relatable and powerful. Thank you for sharing this. ❤️
This single woman -- who is not of the same demographic in all kindsa ways -- nodded her head and nodded her head and nodded her head allllll the way through. Gorgeous gorgeous writing and oh so freaking relatable. I'd like to add that well intentioned people keep telling me not to give up, that there's a man out there for me. And I'm like, "You know what? I'm not sure there is and I'm going to live like this is what I've got going forward."
WOW gorgeous piece, with so much gut-punching detail and heart-opening love! Much success on your journey, wherever it takes you, and I'll meet you in line for that movie (assuming it's OK for me, a GenX woman, to attend :)
Such a gorgeous piece! I've spent too many years looking for other things when what I really needed was a loving, supportive community. I wish that when I was growing up I'd seen this kind of narrative, known it was a possibility. Writing like this helps people imagine the possibilities.

Love, love! There were so many lines that I internally highlighted in my head to keep for later. Beautiful writing!

Make the movie already, I see it! This is wonderful, thank you.
