Wonderful interview! Can't wait to read this book. Love hearing about the backstory--it takes so much courage and persistence to be a memoirist. Congratulations to Julie and wishing her much success sharing this fascinating, under-reported piece of Holocaust history.

Nighttime is the time we re-experience trauma—whether through dreams or sleeplessness. Morning is the time to transform it into art.

Ladinos in Serbia? Who knew?🤷🏽 Thank you.

We are storytellers, what a wonderful way to manage intergenerational, inherited trauma - a gift for your family and beyond. Thank you 🙏

Great interview. Thank you, Sari and Julie. So much in this one, definitely on the re-read list, and looking forward to the book as well. Couple lines that particularly jumped out: "No one talked about Yugoslavia so it seemed to me that even though my grandfather was murdered, it both was and wasn’t part of the Holocaust. Now I understand that you need survivors to tell the stories." and "They were ordinary people, which is precisely why their story is important."

Lovely interview. FWIW…the “Who is another writer you took inspiration from in producing this book?” Appears twice….
