Beautifully written. Your descriptions of the area are so familiar to me I wondered if it was my Catskill neighborhood. No wonder, because I live at 9 Liberty! Was that where Slut’s family lived?
Amazing! If google serves me right, you're next door to the brick house where Slut's family lived. The architecture in that neighborhood has some of the wildest buildings, huh?
The brick house is stucco… maybe it used to be brick? The family in that house has 3 cats that enjoy my porch and backyard. My cat and I are in the city right now while the house is being renovated. My goal is to host writing retreats there, so maybe you will return to Catskill!
I enjoyed this piece about Slut! I loved it, actually. Had a cat many years ago that looked nearly identical to her. She lived with me for 17 years. Thanks for reminding me of her this afternoon.
This is such a beautiful portrait of a cat. Felines are integral to my life, and while I have written about them a few times, I find it hard to capture my relationship with them, which is so intimate. You do so here with such rich details. I hear Slut and see her outside your door, on your couch. Lovely!
I loved reading your story. You made me feel like I was there in Catskill with you and cat “slut.” Oh, and I call my mutt a “ho” under my breath. She’s such a slut, too.
You wove this whole story so beautifully- I was hooked from the first paragraph. The melancholy was so beautifully balanced by the goodness of Slut, and the house, and your walks. I know that feeling so well, thank you for painting a picture that felt like a mirror.
Loved this tail of the wily cat! As I am a bona fide cat lady, I enjoy most cat tales, as long as they are not sentimental-drippy...and I can just see and hear Slut the way you write about her. :-)

So glad you enjoyed this, Kathryn.
