This is magnificent; the writing, the story, your memories... What a beautiful and tragic tale of a time in history I've heard so much about. The fig tree as the central theme only adds to the beauty of it. You are an incredible writer. So grateful I discovered you today :)

So powerful. I have been trying to grow fig trees for years, but in Colorado, it’s not easy. Trying again in my new home, and now I’ll think of this elegant essay every time I tend my trees.
